Prompts: Practicing Gratitude

What is something you’re grateful to have learned?

Who are you grateful to? What are you grateful to them for?

What are you grateful to yourself for? (For example - choices you’ve made, skills you’ve grown).

For example - I’m grateful to myself for (almost) always remembering to wear sunscreen. I’m grateful to myself for saying no to that job that I know wasn’t a good fit, even though it was difficult.

What are you grateful for when it comes to your body? What do you get to experience by having a body?

List 100 gratitudes from your life so far. Take your time, and be as specific as you can. Keep this list to look back on when you need to. You could even turn it into a piece of art.

Every day, write down 3 things you are grateful for. Notice different types of gratitude, from more external (“the unexpected sunshine today”) to internal (“I chose to take a walk outside in the sunshine - it eased my headache and brought me calm”).

If you are struggling with gratitude, there may be internal obstacles getting in your way. If you’d like to explore these in therapy, I welcome you to reach out for a free consult at hello@maevecounselling.com.
