Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't see what you’re looking for, please feel free to reach out for more information.

  • Looking at my background and approach can be a helpful first step, but a consultation call gives us an opportunity to connect more personally.

A consultation provides a free, no-obligation space for you to ask questions and learn more about me, and for me to assess whether I have the training, experience, and availability to support you well. You can read some tips on how to make the most out of a consult call here.

It's common to have consultations with a couple of different people before deciding who feels right for you. If it feels helpful, I’m happy to offer suggestions or referrals during our consult call.

  • My office is a cosy spot at Fir & Broadway in Vancouver. It’s central, easy to get to by transit, but also quiet. It’s an accessible building, with an elevator and space to accommodate all bodies. Washrooms are private, single-stall, and accessible, with all genders welcome.

We have blankets, multiple seating options, heating and air conditioning. You are welcome to bring snacks and fidgets! Tea and water are available in the waiting area.

  • You can reach out through my contact form here to get started.

We’ll start with a complimentary consultation call. If it feels like a good fit, we can schedule a session right away—or you can take your time to think, and book in on your own time through Jane App.

  • I prefer to learn about you in dialogue rather than extensive intake questionnaires. Aside from some a few foundational health and safety questions, our first session will focus on building connection and understanding. All first sessions are different, and you don’t have to share any more than you feel comfortable with.

  • You can reach out anytime through my secure contact page or by emailing hello@maevecounselling.com.

I don’t use my phone for client communication aside from initial consult calls. Since much of my work hours are spent in focused, one-on-one sessions, I reply to emails as promptly as I can, but I’m not able to provide immediate or emergency responses.

If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis, please call 911, 988 (the suicide crisis helpline), or 310-6789 (the BC mental health support line).

  • The number and the frequency of sessions are your choice, and can depend on many factors—including what you’re working on and your financial situation. Transparency is really important in our work, and so we can talk about this at any time. If I have a recommendation, I will be sure to share the ‘why’ with you.

It’s usually very helpful to have sessions weekly or biweekly to start. This can help us build our therapeutic relationship, get to deeper exploration, and create momentum to facilitate the changes you’re looking for.

Session frequency can also vary over time. For example, if you’re going through a particularly challenging stage, you may choose to come more often for a while.

  • 48 hours' notice is required for any cancellations to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 48 hours’ notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged the full session fee.

  • A 50 minute counselling session (online or in-person) is $160. Counselling is exempt from all BC and federal taxes.

You can find details on my sliding scale policy and waitlist here.

  • You will need to check with your benefits provider to see whether Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) are eligible for coverage, as each insurer is different.

I do not currently provide direct billing to benefits providers—if you have coverage, you will be able to submit your receipts for reimbursement.

  • I am currently in the registration process with CVAP. While I cannot give an exact timeline, I hope to be registered within the next couple of months.

I do not provide ICBC-funded counselling.

If you have another source of funding not listed here, I am happy to chat with you about whether we can work together.
