Resources: Sexuality & Sex Therapy
I’ve collected these resources over time from my personal and professional work. This means it’s an imperfect list; there are many other individuals and organizations doing great work out there. Still, I wanted to share what I’ve found with you.
Books
Come As You Are - Emily Nagoski
A science-based, empowering book that explains how women’s sexuality actually works. This book focuses on debunking myths, celebrating individuality, and emphasizing self-acceptance. It also includes practical tips and homework, and if you are looking for something even more active, there is a Come As You Are Workbook.
Mating in Captivity - Esther Perel
An exploration of how to reconcile erotic desire with long-term intimacy, challenging the idea that domesticity and passion are naturally compatible. Perel also has podcasts, courses, and articles available at estherperel.com.
Better Sex Through Mindfulness: How Women Can Cultivate Desire - Dr. Lori Brotto
A book by Dr. Lori A. Brotto (clinical psychologist & professor) that draws on ~15 years of research focused on women’s sexual desire, arousal, and satisfaction. It uses mindfulness practices to help women become more in tune with their bodies, notice desire more readily, reduce negative self‑judgement or distraction, and heal from issues like sexual pain.
